Honolulu Soaring was formed in 1970 and has operated continuously from Dillingham Airfield on Oahu’s North Shore. At that time, Dillingham was an Air Force Base that had recently been deactivated. When Bill Star and Sam Bleadon came to Hawaii as recent college graduates, the best friends saw an opportunity. With the financial help of Sam’s dad, they started Honolulu Soaring with just one towplane and one glider. Sam Bleadon retired in 2007. Although Sam is retired, he still lends a hand on our Oahu glider tours.

We have an international reputation for a quality experience !

“Brilliant intro to ridge soaring”

“Very friendly instructor + tow pilot. Was lucky to have great conditions – aerotow to just over 1,000 feet on the second flight and made it all the way up to 2,000 feet. Beautiful scenery, including whales out at sea. Looking forward to coming back.” – Paul D.

“An amazing experience”

“Professional but relaxed pilot. Always a good sign. Amazing views. Would do this again! One caveat. Two small men were really cramped in the back seat. If you have any size to you, take a solo ride.” – Jack M.

“Honolulu Soaring”

“It was beautiful and peaceful. We had hotel pickup to the destination which cost $90 for two people. I thought was a little high. That was the only downfall. Other than that highly recommend this company.” – Michelle G.

Our 53rd year !   Honolulu Soaring is known by two other familiar names:
The Original GLIDER RIDES ®  and   Mr Bill’s Original GLIDER RIDES ®
